The story behind “Eclipse”
On April 8, 2024, I took a road trip with my family. We sat together, watching the sky darken as the moon moved in front of the sun, creating a total solar eclipse. It was one of those rare moments where time feels like it stops, and you're left just soaking in the magic of it all. That experience stuck with me, and I knew I had to translate it into my art.
That's how "Eclipse" came to be—a painting that tries to capture that brief, surreal beauty. I’m excited to share that this piece will be part of the 2024 Thumb Area Artists’ Exhibition on August 29th through September 27th. It’s a piece that, to me, represents that fleeting moment of connection with something much bigger than ourselves.
I created this starting with a dark background. I blocked out the center space and then created delicate swipes of interference pigment radiating outwards.
How does the phenomenon of a solar eclipse inspire your own creativity or sense of wonder? I'd love to hear your thoughts and how moments like these impact your artistic or personal journey.
Whether you were lucky enough to see the eclipse or just appreciate the wonder of the cosmos, I hope "Eclipse" speaks to you. It’s more than just a painting; it’s a memory on canvas, a snapshot of that incredible day.
